Pi-hole Hides Your Own Visits from Cloudflare Web Analytics

Common Pi-hole blocklists include the Web Analytics beacon, so visits from your own network never show up. How to check, and what to do about it.

After adding Cloudflare Web Analytics, the dashboard stayed empty even though the beacon loaded fine from outside. The cause was at home: the beacon’s two domains are on common Pi-hole blocklists, so every device behind the Pi-hole drops it without an error.

Ask the Pi-hole directly:

dig +short @<pihole-address> static.cloudflareinsights.com
dig +short @<pihole-address> cloudflareinsights.com

0.0.0.0 means blocked. To confirm the site side works, visit from a phone with Wi-Fi off; that visit should appear within a few minutes.

To count your own visits, add both domains to the Pi-hole allowlist. Or leave them blocked and enjoy stats that skip you. Either way, visitors running ad blockers won’t be counted, so treat the numbers as a floor.
